The 2018 Subaru Love Promise Customer and Community Commitment Award

What is the Subaru Love Promise?

Subaru and our retailers believe in making the world a better place and the Subaru Love Promise is our vision of respecting all people. This is our commitment to show love and respect to our customers and to work to make a positive impact in the world.

The Subaru Love Promise Community Commitment

We believe in being a positive force in something bigger. And it all starts right here in our community. Not just by our donations, but by our actions.

That's why we stay true to our Love Promise Community Commitment by partnering with a wide variety of community nonprofits and charities.

Every year, we join hands with our owners in the "Share the Love" event, giving back to our community-a community that's given so much to us.

So, every day, we strive to ensure our love is felt not just by our customers, but by all in our community. We do this because we feel it is the right thing to do.

We are proud to participate in the Love Promise Community Commitment. We're grateful, not only to be a part of our community, but to serve and support the causes and passions that are closest to our hearts, right here in our neighborhood.

All of the organizations we support have one thing in common: the unwavering dedication to improve the world and the lives of its people.

Love Promise Stories from First Team Subaru

Subaru Loves the Earth  –  Sean D

Subaru Loves the Earth

First Team Subaru is committed to increasing sustainability efforts in our community and wants to offer a convenient place for you to recycle items you may normally just throw away. This April, Subaru of America and retailers nationwide, including First Team Subaru, are launching a partnership with TerraCycle to help keep waste out of landfills and turn it into things like park benches, bike racks, and flowerpots. So far, the Zero-Waste™ Box program has diverted more than 500,000 pounds of waste from landfills. TerraCycle is eliminating the ‘Idea of Waste’, by recycling the non-recyclable. First Team Subaru now has Zero-Waste™ Boxes placed in the dealership that can be used to dispose of snack wrappers, disposable coffee cups, and single-use coffee pods. Feel free to collect items at home and stop by our dealership to recycle them! And while you’re here, you can grab a chip clip made from recycled snack bags as a thank you for helping keep the Roanoke Valley sustainable. (While supplies last).

First Team Subaru is proud to congratulate Leslie Saul, the winner of the 2018 GOLDEN APPLE AWARD. Leslie Saul - a fifth-grade teacher from Back Creek Elementary School. The Golden Apple Award is the single highest honor presented to a teacher by the Education Foundation. In addition, Saul will be Roanoke County Public School's nominee for the Virginia Teacher of the Year Award. Each year, teachers from across Roanoke County Public Schools are nominated by students, parents, co-workers and administrators to receive Golden Apple Award. This year, 88 teachers were nominated and 18 teachers were selected as semi-finalists. In addition to receiving a check for $3,000, Saul received an additional award - the use of a brand-new 2018 Subaru Forester for one year, courtesy of First Team Subaru, with custom license plates that read GR8-TCR (Great Teacher). Share the Love with First Team!  –  Taylor F

Share the Love with First Team!

This year is Subaru’s 50th anniversary celebration and First Team Subaru is ready to Share the Love! We were honored to work closely with Carilion Children’s Hospital, part of the Children’s Miracle Network and their Miracle Families to share the love even more, by using the song “Put a Little Love in your Heart” in a 30 second TV commercial and a longer video for websites and social media. First Team Subaru is proud to have chosen the Children’s Miracle Network and Carilion Children’s Hospital as our hometown charity. First Team Subaru is excited to double the love and match every donation to the Children’s Miracle Network and Carilion Children’s Hospital during the Share the Love event this year. It is our goal to continue to help those in need in our community. In the past few years we have been able to donate over $80,000, and we want to continue that success. The money goes directly towards purchasing lifesaving equipment and services that would otherwise not be available. Examples include:• Omni giraffe beds for NICU• Bedside breast milk freezers• Pediatric Transport Unit, where any operation done within the hospital can be done within the unitDuring this holiday season, First Team Subaru is very thankful to share the love with our community.

First Team Subaru Loves Pets  –  Taylor F

First Team Subaru Loves Pets

First Team Subaru holds pets close to our hearts, so it was very exciting to have October be a month about celebrating pets in our community! All month long, we collected donation items to give to our local animal shelter, the Roanoke Valley SPCA. On October 21st, we held an adoption event in cooperation with the RVSPCA in our beautiful new showroom, at First Team Subaru Super store, central and southwest Virginia’s largest Subaru sales and service facility. Six wonderful dogs and 2 kittens got adopted and went home to loving families that day. We were thrilled that we could help these families by giving them new dog owner kits to ensure the animals had everything they needed in their new forever homes. In an interview, the family that adopted Shilo the dog said, “we wanted to come out here and rescue a dog, so we did and we are very excited”. Here at First Team Subaru we are excited for Shilo and his new family to have a great life together! We are thankful that we were able to help these pets find homes and have the opportunity to return the love that pets give us. First Team Subaru thanks the RVSPCA for helping First Team Subaru do that this month!

First Team Subaru Loves to Learn!  –  Taylor F

First Team Subaru Loves to Learn!

Since 1988, when First Team Subaru opened our doors, Subaru has had a goal to make the pursuit of knowledge available to as many minds as possible in our community. We believe the deepest learning happens when students have the tools they need to inspire new ways of thinking and seeing the world. This August, First Team Subaru participated in the Subaru Loves Learning initiative. We supported the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) in donating award-winning science books to many local students in the community. AAAS seeks to "advance science, engineering, and innovation throughout the world for the benefit of all people." First Team Subaru donated award-winning science books, on behalf of our customers to Burlington Elementary, just up the road in Roanoke, VA. Burlington Elementary is a wonderful place for students from diverse backgrounds to grow educationally and have meaningful learning experiences. Now at the school, they have new, fun books to engage the students in learning about science! Customers at First Team Subaru were also able to pick up a customized note card where they could include a personalized note to an educator in the community to really show how much they value educating our future. According to AAAS, only 36% of high school students are ready for college level science. First Team Subaru is truly dedicated to helping prepare these students for their futures. First Team Subaru and Burlington Elementary love to learn!

Subaru & LLS Deliver Blankets to Cancer Patients  –  Khiem T

Subaru & LLS Deliver Blankets to Cancer Patients

The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) was honored to partner with First Team Subaru for the Loves To Care program. Together we delivered 80 blankets, 10 arts and craft kits, and handfuls of Messages of Hope to cancer patients at Carillion Roanoke Memorial Hospital on Friday, July 7, 2017. There in the Oncology Unit, we were welcomed by a team of nurses. The delivery came as a surprise to some of them, and they were almost teary-eyed at the thought of the smiles the blankets would soon bring. We posed for another glamour shot and gave our appreciations. Thinking that was a wrap, we were pleasantly surprised when we were told that we had the opportunity to hand-deliver the blankets directly to the patients. The first patient that we touched was Ben, a bright young man who was currently undergoing chemo therapy. You could tell that he was a little reserved but genuinely appreciative of his new blanket, bracelet, and the Message of Hope that accompanied it. We then visited Mr. Sink, who was as friendly as can be. He invited us to sit right beside him on the hospital bed, as we exchanged some stories and then smiled big for the camera. He was an AML patient who was upbeat and fully determined to beat the odds. He also had the most gorgeous view of the cascading Blue Ridge Mountains outside of his window. The picturesque scenery and the newly gifted merchandise sure brightened up his day. What an incredible experience and truly remarkable program to be a part of.

Subaru Loves the Earth, Certified Wildlife Habitat

Subaru is working to reverse the decline of wildlife in our local community by participating in the National Wildlife Federation's Certified Wildlife Habitat Initiative along with William Byrd High School. During the month of April, First Team Subaru established a Certified Wildlife Habitat® at William Byrd High School to encourage and inspire students to preserve wildlife and their habitats. A Certified Wildlife Habitat® provides the four basic elements that all wildlife needs to thrive: food, water, cover and places to raise their young. First Team Subaru also encouraged customers to join the effort by creating their own Certified Wildlife Habitat® with seed cards provided by First Team.

Roanoke Valley SPCA Adoption at First Team Subaru

On Saturday, December 6th, 2014, First Team Subaru hosted the Roanoke Valley SPCA for an Adoption Event, right in the showroom! The purpose of this event was two-fold: to increase awareness of the benefits of pet adoption over buying, and to actually adopt out some pets that day. The pets seemed to have as great a time as the people, and several lucky animals found new friends and new homes. First Team Subaru is proud to have hosted this great event, bringing people and pets together. First Team Subaru continues to support RVSPCA. Signage at the dealership, blog posts, Facebook posts and newsletter articles by First Team all help to get the word out.
