First Team Subaru Loves The Earth 2021 - Brenda O

In order to keep our natural resources safe, First Team Subaru has worked closely with Roanoke’s leaders to build and maintain partnerships that go above and beyond existing environmental rules and guidelines. Each April is Subaru’s “Love the Earth” month, where dealers are recognized for their efforts in keeping our environment safe through recycling. Year-round, First Team Subaru consistently follows environmentally-sound guidelines, provides recycling bins for our guests, and makes sure to recycle every possible disposable. This includes items that cannot be tossed into the home recycling bin like coffee capsules, snack wrappers, and dealer-specific recyclable auto parts and fluids such as motor oil and air filters. First Team Subaru works with TerraCycle through Subaru of America to collect and transport recyclables safely and efficiently. For Subaru “Love the Earth” month, First Team Subaru did a special community recycling drive, inviting people from the community to bring their recyclables to the dealership for proper disposal, even if they weren’t First Team customers. Some of the recycling numbers from First Team Subaru for include: Coffee, Tea, & Creamer Capsules 85 lbs., 3,159 Units Disposable Cups and Lids 53lbs., 5,300 Units Snack Wrappers 114 lbs., 14,319 Units First Team Subaru is very happy to provide this free service for the community, and looks forward to continuing the efforts throughout the year.

First Team Subaru donates to Toys for Tots - Christopher P

First Team Subaru and K92 have teamed up again this year to help bring toys to Roanoke Valley children! 2020 has been a tough year for everyone, so more than ever the First Team Subaru Family wanted to help the Roanoke community as much as possible. Each year First Team Subaru donates 100 bicycles to Toys for Tots, and is the drop-off point for anyone wishing to make a donation. First Team Subaru strives to fill a 20-foot box truck with toys to bring to the Marines before Christmas. Due to the unprecedented circumstances and social distancing guidelines in place for 2020, First Team Subaru knew this goal would be more difficult to reach than ever to achieve. So, this year First Team Subaru reached out to all of their local media partners, who in turn reached out to their loyal listeners, families and friends in the community to contribute bikes and other toys to the Toys for Tots toy drive. And wow, what an incredible outpouring of support for this great cause! The Marines said there were over 18,000 toys donated, including over 700 bikes, trikes, scooters, and hoverboards – with most of those bikes coming from First Team Subaru, their customers, and friends. First Team Subaru is very proud to have been able to help the Roanoke community collect so many toys for this year’s Toys for Tots drive as part of this amazing program and wants to thank everyone in the Roanoke community who went above and beyond to donate many thousands of bikes and toys this year! About Toys for Tots: The mission of the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Program is to collect new, unwrapped toys during October, November and December each year, and distribute those toys as Christmas gifts to needy children in the community in which the campaign is conducted. First Team Subaru heartfully thanks the Marines who volunteered their time to bring toys to Roanoke Valley children.

First Team helps find pets FUR-EVER homes - Karen W

On Saturday, October 26th, 2019, First Team Subaru hosted our annual Pet Adoption Event in partnership with the Roanoke Valley SPCA. The RVSPCA brought six dogs and several kittens to the event…and we’re happy to say ALL SIX DOGS and two cats got new forever homes on Saturday! We even had 2 guests arrive wanting to adopt after the event, and First Team sent them to the RVSPCA, so we helped in getting additional animals fur-ever homes. New pet owners received a new dog-owner kit that includes a welcome home guide, a toy, treats and wipes donated by Subaru. With well over 75 people in attendance, we are proud to say that with your help, this year’s pet adoption event was a complete success. At the event were VCA Valley Animal Hospital Veterinarians, who were on-sight to answer questions about the health of and how to take care of new pets. Along with giveaways, everyone who adopted at the event on Saturday, received a free future exam including medicine (up to $250). We thank VCA Valley Animal Hospital for their generous donations. Owner Beverly Amsler of The Well-Trained Dog & Pet Care was on-hand to answer questions and offer services for new pet adopters. The Well-Trained Dog & Pet Care is a full-service dog training, dog walking, and pet sitting company. All services are provided exclusively in the client’s home. We thank Beverly for her time and contributions to this great event. Also thank you to everyone at WFXR for being at the event with volunteers and giveaways, and for all the promotional support that helped to make this event a big success, including hosting potential adoption pets on the Living Local segment. On the day of the event, we had news media and coverage from WDBJ7, WSLS 10 and WSET 13. We’ve collected hundreds of items from people like you, and we thank you very much for your donations! Items like beds, cleaning supplies, bags and bowls are always needed, so please tell your friends. Remember, if you missed the event, you can always go to the Roanoke Valley SPCA, as they always have a lot of pets that need forever homes. We thank you all again and look forward to next year’s event!

Subaru Loves the Earth - Sean D

First Team Subaru is committed to increasing sustainability efforts in our community and wants to offer a convenient place for you to recycle items you may normally just throw away. This April, Subaru of America and retailers nationwide, including First Team Subaru, are launching a partnership with TerraCycle to help keep waste out of landfills and turn it into things like park benches, bike racks, and flowerpots. So far, the Zero-Waste™ Box program has diverted more than 500,000 pounds of waste from landfills. TerraCycle is eliminating the ‘Idea of Waste’, by recycling the non-recyclable. First Team Subaru now has Zero-Waste™ Boxes placed in the dealership that can be used to dispose of snack wrappers, disposable coffee cups, and single-use coffee pods. Feel free to collect items at home and stop by our dealership to recycle them! And while you’re here, you can grab a chip clip made from recycled snack bags as a thank you for helping keep the Roanoke Valley sustainable. (While supplies last).
